I am Adam Birke, a freshmen here at Buffalo State College. My major is biology. I am also going to be a swimmer here on the school’s swim team, which I am very excited about. Coming from Long Island I am absolutely and simply in love with the water. Surfing is my all time favorite activity. Not only is it a physical activity but it really provides mental and emotional relaxation.

I’ve known about Lord of the rings since I was in elementary school from hearing about the novels from my dad who had read them in college or at some other point in his life. However, the first time I was introduced to lord of the Rings first hand was when the films came out. Being very young at the time I was intrigued by the fantasy and chivalrous nature of the movies. Now being slightly older I am amazed that I am still fascinated in the same things but also realize the ingenuity that it took to create these fictional societes and cultures.

In class I look foward to discussing the novels and hearing opinions on the films that may differ from my own to better my insight on the Lord of the Rings and take in different aspects. I woud also like to be introduced to the relationships, if any, between certain aspects of society and culture in the books and a real world society and culture that the book may have influenced or visa versa.

Sadly I am not a harry potter fan. I remember reading the first book in fifth or sixth grade, but I never had the desire to continue the series or even keep up with watching each movie. I would say Harry potter is someting I enjoy but not enough to take the time to explore it more. Adam Birke? August 28, 2008, at 08:03 PM
