I know Tolkien was a philologist. My question is, was he just looking forward to preserve the dying Anglo-saxon languages and in so doing created a mythology for England and contributed to folklore. Or did he seek to do all these things and used only one medium to do so.Trudy Antwi September 28, 2008, at 10:27 PM
I would like to know more about the origins of Tolkien’s languages that he created. I would also like to know how much of Tolkien’s stories were influenced by general aspects of Anglo Saxon literature, as opposed to specific story elements. Kelsey Till October 01, 2008, at 07:53 PM
Do you think that Tolkien wanted his readers to be able to identify his Anglo-Saxon influences, especially Beowulf, or did Tolkien want them to be hidden in his own story?

Do you think there is one aspect of Anglo Saxon literature that inspired Tolkien the most? Elizabeth Delano? October 01, 2008, at 11:12 PM
Are there any stories in the Lord of the Rings that can be said are heavily influenced by particular Anglo-saxon myths?
