Dear Elizabeth

I think you need to go back to your original topic and omit “the other political issues.” Race and class in Tolkien’s work is a huge topic all by itself.

This outline is too short and is extremely vague. You need to state your thesis and say how you mean to develop it. Lydia Fish October 30, 2008, at 12:21 PM

Topic: Racism, class differences and other political issues and Tolkien

Introduction: I am going to talk about my topic in a generalized way. Briefly introduce the topics of racism and race differences, the relationship between Sam and Frodo.

I am going to split my paper into sections, each section dealing with a different part of my topic.

The section on racism: I am going to use the article titled “Why Is the Only Good Orc a Dead Orc? The Dark Face of Racism Examined in Tolkien’s World.” This article is going to help me explain the questions that have been raised and how people try to answer these questions when dealing with the aspect of racism in the Lord of the Rings series as well as with Tolkien personally. I am going to talk about the tension and dislike between the Elves and the Dwarves as well.

The section of class difference: This section of my paper is going to deal with the relationship between Sam and Frodo as well as other class differences that are seen within the hobbit culture. With Sam and Frodo, I am going to talk about the connection of the relationship they share with the relationships of people in the military. People who are higher up in the ranks are usually treated better and helped along by the people in the lower end of things.

This outline is very rough I know.
