Dear Brittany
These comments are extremely brief. I really can’t tell by reading them if you have finished reading the Foreword or not. Can you expand on them a bit?
Also, you need to check your spelling and punctuation, especially commas. Lydia Fish October 16, 2008, at 07:58 AM
I never thought to place George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm with Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. They are both fantasy and deal with societal issues but the writing, time period and other elements are so different.
I knew a lot of the bibliography of Tolkien from the films we watched in class and other sources. I think it is interesting that Humphrey Carpenter did not think anything else happened after 1925. It was after these years that he wrote his book, among other things. I guess if there is noe drama and taboo instances it is not worth discussing.
Another interesting thing is how much Tolkien have influenced other writers. I really have not read any books that can clearly be tied to the Lord of the Rings. I know there are many books written as spin-offs to Star wars and Star Trek but none of The Lord of the Rings.
